The Nakagin Capsule Tower will be demolished soon. People are really upset about it. Some are even trying to save it. Still. The thing is, it's in such terrible condition. At this point, it's probably better it's taken down.
The architect designed the capsules to be easily replaced and upgraded. The building should have evolved and regenerated. Ancient Japanese architecture is actually like this. Traditional structures are in constant restoration. Certain shrines are even completely rebuilt every 20 years.
I do love the Nakagin Tower. Well, maybe I love the idea of it. But in reality, would I want to live in an apartment measuring just 2.4m x 4m in total? ...
